'There was no reason': Florida boy, 7, shot dead by stray bullet during argument over jet skis

A Florida boy lost his life on July 4 when two groups of people arguing over jet skis resorted to firearms to solve their problems, authorities said.

Yitzian Torres Garcia, 7, was with his grandfather at a boat ramp near the Courtney Campbell at around 8:30 p.m. when the argument started.

Police said that the boy's grandfather pulled him into a vehicle when things escalated to gunfire.

  • grandfather in the finger and the young man in the head,” Tampa Police Deputy Chief Calvin Johnson said.

    “There was no reason, no excuse that an argument can lead to gunfire, much less an argument over jet skis.”

    Johnson added that investigators are still working to identify the shooter.

    “We need to do better as a community – really as Americans. We see everybody around the nation, including Tampa – the first thing they jump to is firearms.”
