Maine HS graduate’s body recovered from ocean, weeks after he vanished while fishing lobster

A month after he disappeared while fishing lobster near Petit Manan Island, the body of a Maine teen was recovered from the ocean this week.

Tylar Michaud, 18, had just graduated from Sumner Memorial High School when he disappeared on July 21.

Michaud was fishing lobster to pay for his school costs as he planned to attend Maine Maritime Academy next fall.

    “I’m grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support that followed Tylar’s disappearance,” said Patrick Keliher of the Maine Department of Marine Resources.

    “The efforts of all who joined in the difficult search were unprecedented. Many agencies and individuals devoted countless hours to this search. It speaks volumes about the profound impact a loss like this can have.”
