Authorities in East Point, Georgia are working to confirm the identity of a deceased child found at a waste station and believed to be a missing 2-year-old East Point boy.
J’Asiah Mitchell went missing seven days ago when his 23-year-old father, Artavious North, told detectives that he was kidnapped by an armed robbery suspect outside an apartment complex in DeKalb County.
However, investigators suspected the father’s narrative after they found no evidence of a robbery. North was then arrested on charges of making false statements and false of reports of a crime.
Police and volunteers combed land and water from East Point to Griffin over seven days in their search for little J’Asiah. On Wednesday, the body of a child believed to be the missing toddler was discovered at the East Point Transfer Station on South Martin Street.
Authorities said that the medical examiner’s office is working to identify the remains and determine a cause and manner of death.
