Former University of Houston basketball player Reggie Chaney died Monday at the age of 23.
The cause and circumstances surrounding the Tulsa native’s death remained unclear as of Tuesday morning.
Last year, the forward ended his career with the Houston Cougars being named the American Athletic Conference’s Sixth Man of the Year. He previously played for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Chaney was set to join a professional basketball team in Greece. His former coaches and teammates took to social media to express their sadness and shock over his untimely passing.
“Two words that describe Reggie: Always Dependable,” said former Houston teammate Justin Gorham.
“No matter the situation you know Reg gonna give his 110%. Glad I got the chance to lace em up with him, without Reg we don’t accomplish half the things we did. Rest easy brother LOVE.”
