Former running back for the Ravens and Seahawks Alex Collins is dead at 28 following a tragic motorcycle crash in Lauderdale Lakes late Sunday evening.
Authorities said that the ex-NFL player was riding a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle and traveling eastbound on West Oakland Park Boulevard when he crashed into a 2002 Chevy driving westbound attempting to make a left turn.
“As the car crossed the eastbound lanes, the motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the SUV,” a police report said.
“The impact caused the motorcyclist to enter the rear passenger side window of the Chevrolet and come to a final rest inside the car.”
The athlete was declared dead at the scene of the crash. The female driver of the SUV is cooperating in the investigation.
Collins was drafted in 2016 by the Seahawks and played two seasons with the Ravens in his five-year NFL career that he ended in 2021.
“Alex was a joy to be around and someone whose light shined brightly,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said.
“We send our heartfelt condolences and support to Alex’s family. May he now rest in God’s eternal peace.”
