The 28-year-old Oklahoma City father who fatally shot his three kids and his wife late Wednesday called his father-in-law moments before taking his own life.
“I messed up,” Reuben Armendariz reportedly told his father-in-law on the phone at around 11:30 p.m. shortly before he ended his own life.
Armendariz is believed to have shot and killed Cassandra Flores, and their three children aged 9, 5, and 2 years old.
Flores and two of her children were pronounced dead at the scene while the father and a third child died at a hospital.
Flores’s brother revealed that Armendariz’s call sent his father to the home where he discovered the massacre.
“When my dad got there, they were all gone. My dad saw everything,” he said.
Police said that the couple was married but estranged. A friend of Flores said that the incident left her in complete shock.
“It’s just not real. I never expected that of Ruben at all. Like he was so quiet, but they’ve been together since she was like 17, so you know they’ve been together for a long time,” she said.
