A North Carolina boy is facing manslaughter charges in connection to the fatal shooting of an 8-year-old girl that unfolded late last month.
The mother of the 11-year-old boy was babysitting the victim on July 25 when a gun he brought from his grandfather’s home accidentally discharged hitting little Jenesis Dockery.
“I didn’t know my son brought home a gun from my dad’s house and it fell out of the closet, and it shot the little girl that I’m babysitting, and I need an ambulance now,” the distraught babysitter told the 911 dispatcher.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office requested that the State Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency bring charges against the 11-year-old.
“This juvenile has access to this safe. Alright. Either the safe was open and he had access to it or he had the combination. In my opinion, that is not a secured weapon,” said attorney Harry Daniels.
