A Massachusetts man is accused of fatally beating his mother during a visit to his home last weekend.
23-year-old Michael Belous called 911 early Monday morning to report that he “discovered” his mother “barely breathing” at his home and that it appeared that she was “beaten up.”
First responders arrived at the scene to find Belous performing CPR on 51-year-old Elena Vainer as she layed unresponsive with “obvious bruising to her face” and “other apparent trauma.”
Officers noted that Vainer's face was significantly swollen and pale. She was “cold to the touch” and lying in a pool of blood; the details suggested that she had been there “for a much longer time than [Belous] said.”
According to the police report, Belous “fell to the floor” when he learned that his mother has died. Officers then spotted injuries on his hands “consistent with having been in a recent struggle.”
“The defendant claiming that she was breathing moments earlier was inconsistent with the officers' observations on the scene,” prosecutors said.
“He was out of his mind,” a neighbor who witnessed Belous' arrest recalled. “He was just screaming and acting strange.”
