San Diego authorities are investigating an accidental shooting that claimed the life of a baby girl Monday.
Deputies responded to a Fallbrook home at about 7:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting.
Once at the scene, the deputies learned that a 3-year-old found an unsecured handgun and accidentally fired a shot at their one-year-old sister.
“Despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced deceased at about 8:30 a.m.,” the San Diego Sheriff's Department said in a statement.
Authorities added that there were no “outstanding suspects” and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
“The Sheriff's Department extends our sympathies to the family and those affected by this death,” they added.
