Small plane crash kills 6 people in California

A small plane crash claimed six people's lives early Saturday morning in California, authorities said.

The Cessna C550 business jet took off from the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, officials said.

At around 4:15 a.m., it crashed in a field near the French Valley Airport in Murrietta, California, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

  • “Preliminary information indicates the airplane crashed short of French Valley Airport during its second approach around 4:15 a.m.,” an NTSB spokesperson said.

    The aircraft was “fully involved in fire” and burned “approximately one acre of vegetation” following the crash.

    All six occupants of the plane were declared dead at the scene. Their identities were not immediately made public.

    An investigation into the crash is ongoing, the FAA AND National Transportation Safety Board said.
