Squatter's children found imprisoned in filthy room; eating pieces of foam mattress

The mother of two young girls and her boyfriend were arrested and charged Monday after officers discovered the horrific conditions the girls were living inside a Bronx apartment.

Stephanie Grabowski and Mark Russell were charged with second-degree kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a child over the May 3 discovery.

The 40-year-old woman's two daughters, aged 3 and 4, were found “naked and bruised on a filthy spongelike mattress on the floor, and feces, dirty diapers and garbage throughout the room.”

    The squatter couple was forced out of a Bronx apartment where they had been living in “terrible condition with urine and feces about the place and there did not appear to be sufficient food, amenities, clothing or clean diapers.”

    Doctors revealed that the girls had “significant bruising and marks in various stages of healing.”

    They also suffered rashes and had “difficulties walking, standing, and speaking.”
