A Colorado mother is accused of murdering her infant son after suffering severe postpartum depression, her family said.
Anna Louise Englund, 30, went missing on Saturday after taking the 2-month-old baby with her and driving away, relatives said.
After hours of search and a statewide “attempt to locate” bulletin, Englund and the baby were located on their way to Boulder Community Hospital. The child was unresponsive and died about 20 minutes after arriving at the hospital.
Authorities did not elaborate on the infant's manner of death but arrested Englund on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Englund's husband said that although he cannot understand what was going on in the new mother's mind, he knew she was suffering from depression.
“She was working with a therapist on it, and seemed to be getting better, we thought she was better, and then all of a sudden she just took off,” a friend of Englund said.
“She randomly left with the baby, no shoes that we know of, grabbed her bag, left her phone, and we weren't able to find her at any of the places she likes to go to.”
