Missing Birmingham woman found dead, burning in woods after she left for Facebook meetup

A Birmingham woman was found killed and in flames in woods hours, after she left her home for a Facebook marketplace meetup, police said.

Jermiera Ivory Fowler, 31, was found lifeless and burning at around 9 p.m. Thursday in a wooded area in the 200 block of Sellers Road in Birmingham.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and pronounced the mother of two children dead at the scene. Investigators revealed that Fowler had been shot.

  • Hours earlier, a missing alert had been issued for Fowler who was last seen alive at around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

    The victim left her home in the 500 block of 41st Street North in her white Nissan Versa Note heading to a meetup with a person selling something on Facebook Marketplace.

    Police said that it was too early in the investigation to confirm that information and urged anyone with knowledge of the case to call homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
