Nine people including four children were shot near a packed Florida beach on Memorial Day, police said.
The shooting was triggered by an altercation involving two groups of revelers on Hollywood Beach Broadwalk in front of stores at around 6:45 p.m.
Investigators have not determined how many gunmen were responsible for the shooting but said that at least one was in their custody.
The injured minors ranged in age between 1 and 17 years old while the adults aged 25 to 65. One of the nine victims underwent surgery.
“People enjoy a holiday weekend on the beach with their families and to have people in complete reckless disregard of the safety of the public and to have an altercation with guns in a public setting with thousands of people around them is beyond reckless,” Mayor Josh Levy said.
