Honolulu girl, 17, dies days before graduation after suffering medical emergency

A Honolulu girl is dead after she suffered a sudden medical emergency at a swimming meet last weekend, authorities said.

17-year-old Tehani Kealoha was rushed to the hospital but ultimately passed away on Saturday.

The late teen was set to participate with her high school team in a water polo match hours before the tragedy.

  • “The game was canceled when they found out the news. Everyone was affected by it and couldn't play,” a high school sophomore said.

    The match was played two days later with Kealoha's team winning.

    In a statement, Moanalua High School's principal said that Kealoha's passing has “deeply affected the school community, especially with graduation approaching.”
