Florida girl, 15, dies in freak accident during horse riding competition

A Florida girl is dead after she fell while participating in a horse riding competition in Venice Sunday.

15-year-old Hannah Serfass didn't survive her injuries after she fell off her 12-year-old horse Quaxx 2 that has stumbled following a jump.

Authorities said that after the fall, Quaxx landed on Serfass' head as she laid unconscious on the ground.

  • First responders tried life-saving measures at the scene and transported the teen to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where she was declared dead.

    Serfass was competing in a jumping event at Fox Lea Farms when the tragedy struck. She was described as a very talented young rider and passionate about horses.

    “Out of respect to the family, no information will be shared at this time,” Fox Lea Farms said in a statement.

    “We send our sincere condolences to the family, trainer, friends & the whole equestrian community. We are all heartbroken.”
