High-speed chase ends in fatal crash in SD: 2 dead, 1 critical

A high-speed police chase left two people dead and one critically wounded in South Dakota, authorities said Wednesday.

The chase that exceeded 100 mph by times started at around 10 a.m. after the driver of a red Chevrolet refused to stop on Highway 50 ignoring a trooper's commands.

The vehicle traveled erratically prompting the sheriff's department to deploy several patrol cars on the highway to force the driver to stop.

    Another victim was transported to hospital with serious wounds. Yankton Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles said that it was complicated to divert vehicles from the crash scene since several motorists stopped to take videos of the chaotic incident.

    “It was very frustrating. There were a lot of people who took out their cameras and started taking videos of the scene. This was nothing that needed to be out there (on social media.)”
