Jackson County news, West Virginia news.

A West Virginia boy is fighting for his life after he was found unresponsive inside a Jackson County home where he and his twin brother were being imprisoned and starved.

Police arrested the 2-year-old twins' parents, Michael and Lylee Gillenwater, and a third resident of the home, 22-year-old Brian Casto, and charged them with child neglect and child abuse resulting in injury.

First responders rushed to the boys' home to find the toddlers in a filthy room. Sheriff Ross H. Mellinger said that one of the children is currently in complete renal failure and still has “a lot of hurdles to clear medically to see whether he's even going to survive or not.”

The twins were also given medication to sleep, he said.

“It's just amazing to me that animals like this still exist – where becoming a parent is a burden, and living in such a nasty environment,” Mellinger commented on the incident.
