A Pennsylvania boy was charged with murder over the fatal shooting of his 12-year-old friend last month.
13-year-old Nolan Grove had spent the day with the victim, Kain Heiland, and another boy ahead of a sleepover at Grove's home, police said.
The third boy told detectives that Grove was playing with a gun all day sometimes pointing at Heiland and flashing the laser sight to which Heiland responded “Take your finger off the trigger.”
Detectives also learned that later in the evening, Grove told the boys and two girls that he was not afraid of shooting someone.
Grove had reportedly been making derogatory remarks about the victim's mother throughout the day. At around 8:22 p.m., and as they walked in the street, Grove again insulted Heiland's mom with the victim telling him to shut up.
The suspect then shot Heiland once in the back killing him before uttering “I'm so sorry, K.”
Police said that Grove denied all allegations and even changed his clothes and washed his hand off Heiland's blood.
Heiland's grandmother said that murder charges against Grove are “not a high enough charge.”
“I wish we were in Texas so he could get the death penalty. He took Kain from us, and they should take him from his family,” the grieving woman said.
“His parents will still get to see him. I'll never get to see Kain again.”
