Missouri teen, 16, shot to head after knocking on wrong door

A Kansas City, Missouri teen was shot in the head and arm and left with critical injuries when he knocked on the wrong door while trying to pick up his sibling.

Ralph Yarl, 16, remains at a hospital after the Thursday night incident that unfolded when he mistakenly went to a house on NE 115th Street instead of NE 115th Terrace.

His mother said that he keeps “replaying the situation over and over again” and wouldn't stop crying.

  • The shooter turned himself in on Tuesday. He was identified as Andrew Lester, 84, and faces first-degree assault and armed criminal action charges.

    The incident sent protesters to the shooter's house as Mayor Quinton Lucas asked the community to trust the justice system.

    “We're all trying our best to make sure that people understand that we are listening. And further, understand that the department is listening on every situation where any circumstances may come up that impacts race or other dynamics in our community,” the mayor said.

    “We want the community to know that we are committed to justice in this case and every case and work every day to seek that justice for all victims of all crimes.”
