Burning body found in Florida field: 'A jarring scene'

Authorities in Hillsborough County, Florida are investigating after a dead person's body was found burning in a field on Saturday.

A passerby called 911 at around 8 a.m. to report “what appeared to be a mannequin on fire” in an open Ruskin field behind a residential complex.

Once at the scene, firefighters determined that the burning object was not a mannequin but a human body.

Authorities said that the body sustained severe burns that prevented them from identifying the victim although they could notice trauma to the upper body.

“This is a jarring scene,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “At this time, our deputies are doing everything they can to determine what happened to this person.”
