Minnesota college student caught with cache of ammunition, suspicious notes in dorm room

Authorities in Minnesota have charged a student at a private college with conspiracy to commit assault and making terroristic threats after they discovered a cache of ammunition and knives inside his dorm room.

Waylon Kurts, 20, was arrested after a custodian at St. Olaf College in Northfield discovered empty packages of high-capacity magazines in his garbage can.

Officers searched the sophomore's room and found empty boxes of ammunition, knives six propane canisters, a battery with wires, and fireworks among other items.

    From his car, detectives confiscated notes on where to shoot a person fatally, police said.

    Kurts' lawyer Paul Rogosheshke said that his client did have “some things that look funny” but never posed a threat to anyone since he had no guns.

    Rice County prosecutors alleged that Kurts “had been planning a mass casualty event” targeting the Skoglund-Tostrud recreational facility with “both firearms and explosives.”
