Missouri woman, 78, arrested for bank robbery: 'It's a little old lady'

An elderly Pleasant Hill, Missouri woman was arrested Wednesday shortly after she robbed a bank, police said.

78-year-old Bonnie Gooch passed the teller at the Goppert Financial Bank a note reading that she needed 13,000 small bills.

Gooch then took off in a Vuick Enclave with a handicap registration number. She was later stopped by officers at the parking lot of an animal clinic.

  • “When officers first approached her, they were kind of confused...it's a little old lady who steps out,” Police Chief Tommy Wright said.

    “We weren't sure initially that we had the right person.”

    When officers searched Gooch's vehicle, they spotted bills on the floorboard. The suspect smelled alcohol and was intoxicated.

    Gooch was convicted of at least two bank robberies in 1977 and 2020, court documents showed.
