A Colorado man has admitted to killing his elderly wife and adult daughter who were found dead inside their Englewood home in one the “most gruesome scenes” detectives had to witness.
Reginald Maclaren, 81, reported the killings to police at around 6 p.m. Saturday telling the dispatcher that he knew who the suspect was and that the victims were killed with a hammer.
Officers responded to the home to find 70-year-old Bethany Maclaren and Ruth Jennifer Maclaren, 35, dead in large trash cans.
The victims were found in the kitchen and the living room with severe injuries; one of the bodies was reportedly dismembered with a saw, police said.
“Some of our detectives have been detectives for 20 years, and they described this as one of the most gruesome crime scenes that they've ever been a part of,” Englewood Police Division Chief Tracy Jones said.
The suspect allegedly confessed to the slayings during questioning. He told detectives that he lost his job and was no longer able to pay rent.
Maclaren added that he didn't want to see his wife and daughter homeless and that he “doesn't regret” killing them because he “knows they are in a better place.”
