'His loss will be felt': Cycling champion killed in crash while riding bike at San Francisco's national park

The victim of a Tuesday crash in San Francisco's Presidio national park was identified as cycling champion Ethan Boyes.

The 10-time national champion was fatally struck by a car at around 4 p.m. while riding his bike.

Eyewitnesses said that Boyes was traveling south when he was hit by a car traveling the opposite way.

  • “Crash investigations are complex and require an analysis of a large amount of evidence and data,” the U.S. Park Police commented.

    Boyes' family described him as “wildly generous of spirit and heart, charismatic, quietly funny, thoughtful, smart and gracious.”

    “His loss will be felt at local, regional, national, and world events for years as he brought a mixture of competition and friendliness to every race,” USA Cycling said in a statement Friday.

    “Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”
