Drunk driver rams car into police vehicle 'parked well off road' killing firefighter, hurting officer

A Mansfield firefighter is dead and an officer is hospitalized after they were hit by a drunken driver while responding to reports of a crash Saturday morning.

The Mansfield Police Department said that Firefighter Justin Sanders, 31, and Officer Michale Bryson, 39, were struck by a pickup truck driven by an intoxicated man.

  • The pickup truck crossed the center line at around 12:45 a.m. and slammed into the law enforcement vehicle that was “parked well off the roadway” on Business Route 60 killing Sanders, who also worked as a Wright County EMT.

    Officer Bryson was rushed to a Springfield hospital in serious condition; the 21-year-old driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries.

    “Please keep the Mansfield, MO Police Department, and the Mansfield Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers,” the police department said.
