A 14-year-old girl was found hanging inside a California high school early Thursday, about an hour after she left her nearby home, police said.
The unidentified teen was found dead on the second floor of Lindhurst High School in Olivehurst at around 6 a.m.
“It does appear to be a suicide,” Yuba County Sheriff Wendell Anderson said. “It's an active, ongoing investigation.”
The sheriff added that multiple students saw the body and that witnesses are urged to come forward to share statements and receive support.
“I know I can speak for our entire department when I say we are incredibly heartbroken from this tragedy,” Anderson said.
“This will undoubtedly impact our community and I urge anyone suffering with suicidal thoughts to seek help immediately.”
