3 teens shot near North Carolina middle school, 2 fatally

Three 16-year-olds were shot near a North Carolina middle school late Tuesday with authorities spending the night searching for the bodies of two of them.

It all began at around 10:30 p.m. when the parents of the surviving teen transported him to a local hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds and informed police that two other teens were also shot.

Officers and fire officials launched a search for the two other victims using a drone and cadaver dogs before eventually locating the bodies at around 8 a.m. Wednesday behind Brogden Middle School.

  • “Based on our preliminary investigation, the shooting does not appear to be random,” Durham police said.

    “This is an active investigation and no further details are available at this time.”
