Shooting at Arlington high school leaves student dead, another injured

An Arlington student is dead, another hurt, and a third behind bars facing capital murder charges after he opened fire at classmates early Monday morning as they made their comeback to school from spring break.

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said that a male student was fatally shot and a female student grazed by shrapnel in the shooting that occurred shortly before 7 a.m. at Lamar High School.

  • The shooter, identified as a male student, took off after the incident but was arrested a few minutes later.

    Authorities said that the suspect, whom they didn't identify due to his age, is being held at a juvenile detention center. He was charged with capital murder later Monday.

    Jones said that the incident occurred just before school officers started their duty. School officials said that classes will be canceled for Tuesday.
