A Mississippi woman and her two daughters drowned off Louisiana's Gulf Coast Sunday while on a trip to the beach, Cameron authorities said.

Samantha Alexander, 28, and her daughters aged 7 and 8 were found dead on the Gulf side of the rocks while her 9-year-old son was miraculously rescued, authorities said.

Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson said that Alexander may have jumped into the waters to rescue her three children when she noticed that they were struggling.

“Then, apparently the mother went out because she wouldn't have left the 3-year-old by himself unless she had to,” he added.
