Army Parachute team member dies in training accident at Florida base

Army officials announced the death of a member of the US Army Parachute Team during training at Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida.

Sgt. 1st Class Michael Ty Kettenhofen was identified as the member of the Golden Knights parachute team who died Monday during a training jump.

“The U.S. Army Parachute Team is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own,” Golden Knights Parachute Team Commander Lt. Col. Andy Moffit said.

    No further details were released about the fatal accident pending the ongoing investigation.

    “Our hearts and faith are with his family and friends as we grieve and heal with them. Ty will be honored and remembered as a Golden Knight, Soldier, and friend.”

    Kettenhofen joined the Golden Knights parachute team in 2020 and accomplished more than 1,000 jumps with the Army.
