A Texas mother is accused of killing her 4-year-old son in front of her own mother Monday, police said.
The grandmother, Mary Johnson, called 911 after witnessing the murder of her grandson Grayson Hurt.
Monica Nicole Figueroa admitted to stabbing the boy with a knife inside a home in the 300 block of Mitchell Street in Athens at around 6:30 a.m.
Johnson told police that she saw her grandson rolled in a blanket as Figueroa knifed him.
“Johnson heard the child screaming before she observed Figueroa cutting at the blanket and then the screaming stopped,” said Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse.
“Figueroa threatened Johnson and instructed her to leave which she did.”
About a motive for the crime, Hillhouse said: “She really didn't give any motive or reasons why.”
He added that Hurt was the only child of Figueroa to remain in her custody.
