Florida father forgets toddler in car for hours causing child's death

A Florida father was arrested over the tragic death of his 2-year-old child after he forgot him inside a car for several hours.

Officers performed life-saving measures on the toddler who was found unresponsive in the car Monday afternoon after spending an extended amount of time unattended in the vehicle.

The father, 37-year-old James Fidele, told investigators that he forgot the child there after arriving home earlier in the day.

  • Authorities arrested Fidele after the toddler's death and charged him with leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle and causing great bodily harm.

    “This is a very unfortunate and tragic incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family during this difficult time,” Sgt. John Dellacroce said.

    The Florida Department of Children and Families is assisting the grieving family with support and resources.
