A Houston man took his own life as police approached his residence to conduct a welfare check late Saturday.
Police officers heard the gunshot and busted into the home at around 8 p.m. to find the 63-year-old man who took his own life and a “severely decomposed” body in a different room.
Deputy Thomas Gilliland said that a neighbor called police at around 6 p.m. informing them that two men living next to his home had not been seen in a while.
When deputies arrived, they “did notice that there were a lot of flies and a bad odor from one end of the house.”
“As (the deputies) made entry into the home, they heard one gunshot,” Gilliand added.
Investigators believe that the decomposed body belonged to a 64-year-old man whose relationship to the other victim is unknown but was a resident of the same home.
Further details are pending a forensic investigation into the cause and manner of death of both men.
