Two women were charged after a 5-year-old girl was found dead from significant abuse at a Waynesville, Missouri home.
Police discovered the victim with “significant” marks on her wrists, ankles, and neck with a blood-stained sock near her body after her younger brother told a school official that he saw her unresponsive before coming to class.
Angela West, 39, and Shamira Buford, 36, told investigators that the sock was used to silence the girl because she cried, preventing her siblings from sleeping at night.
Investigators questioned the other kids and learned that the two women tied the slain child up.
The women argued that it was their “last resort” because the victim was stealing food.
Authorities did not reveal the women's relationship with the victim or to the other children.
