Alabama man mauled to death by pack of large dogs while taking a walk

An Alabama man was attacked and killed by a pack of at least six large dogs as he took a walk early Tuesday morning, Jefferson County authorities said.

65-year-old Joe Cleveland Scott's body was discovered by a passerby while still surrounded by the dogs.

Deputies sought the assistance of the humane society to catch the animals before being able to investigate the incident.

  • According to Lt. Joni Money, the dogs seemed to be stray and formed a pack.

    “People will dump animals. Say they had an unwanted litter, they'll dump those animals in areas like that, and they'll just allow them to run free,” Money said.

    “Then, they'll pack together and look after each other. It's kind of like a pack of wolves or coyotes. They learn to survive.”
