'No telltale signs': 5 family members found shot in New Richmond home, 4 fatally, in suspected murder-suicide

Five family members were found shot, four of them to death, inside a New Richmond residence early Monday morning, authorities said.

Deputies with the Clermont County Sheriff's Office visited the home shortly after 9:30 a.m. to serve legal documents related to a civil case and heard shots being fired inside the residence.

They requested the assistance of the Sheriff's Special Response Team and forced entry into the home where they found a massacre scene.

  • Four victims were dead while a 20-year-old woman, identified as Samantha Cain, was hospitalized in critical condition.

    The deceased victims were Samantha's parents, Steve and Theresa Cain, aged 50 and 46, and her 13-year-old brother, Ethan Cain. The fifth victim was identified as 74-year-old William Felton, Theresa's father.

    “There was no indication of ever anything being wrong, no telltale signs at all,” a friend of Steve Cain, who performed as a vocalist for local band Critical Khaos, said.

    “We just pray for him and his family and in the end find some peace and that's all we are hoping for.”
