Two Lee County Sheriff's Office were fired from their jobs and charged with official misconduct and battery after they allegedly poured hot scalding water on inmates.
Casey Howell and Enzo Finamore were arrested Tuesday after a total of five inmates suffered first and second-degree burns following the alleged incidents.
“These two lost their privilege of being our family members,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “They disgraced the badge.”
“The investigation found that Howell and Finamore threw scalding, hot water from a water dispenser onto the inmates to gain compliance,” the Sheriff added.
Howell was charged with two counts of felony official misconduct and one count each of felony and misdemeanor battery.
Finamore faces charges of felony official misconduct and misdemeanor battery.
“Sheriff Carmine Marceno demands accountability & professionalism,” the Sheriff's office said in a statement.
“LCSO does not tolerate the disgusting & cruel actions of these correction officers. Remedies have already been taken, & LCSO remains dedicated to changing policies.”
