Wheat Ridge news, Colorado news.

A Woman and her two passengers were arrested Monday after an officer inspecting a shoplifting incident discovered a baby covered with drug residue on the car's floorboard.

The incident took place outside a King Soopers store in Wheat Ridge where an employee reported a theft to an officer on patrol.

The suspected shoplifter allowed the cop to search the trunk of her car and accepted to return the stolen items to the store.

But the officer suspected something abnormal with the vehicle that smelt drugs; when he looked at the front passenger seat floorboard, he spotted a baby.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you to the employee who stopped us,” the Wheat Ridge Police Department said.

“We've said it before but we can't say it enough – oftentimes a seemingly

less serious offense reveals a more serious crime.”

“And in this case, the employee's willingness to contact one of our officers may have saved a child's life.”
