A North Carolina girl was so severely beaten when she arrived at a Nashville hospital yesterday that doctors couldn't save her young life.
The 8-year-old victim's grandma and legal guardian, Patricia Ann Ricks, was arrested and booked without bond to the Nash County Detention Center on first-degree murder charges in connection with the death.
“On Tuesday 02-07-2023 shortly after 4:00 p.m., the Nash County Sheriff's Office was notified of a juvenile that was brought into the Emergency Room at Nash UNC Healthcare with severe injuries and was deceased upon arrival,” the Sheriff's Office said.
“Based on the investigation, it was determined that the 8-year-old juvenile was beaten so severely by the Grandmother that she died from the injuries throughout her entire body and head.”
The deceased girl was living with Ricks and other siblings in a Dutchman Road home. The 72-year-old grandmother was the children's guardian.
Upon her arrest, the surviving children were placed in the custody of the Nash County Department of Social Services.
