Badly charred body found in driver's seat of burning car in Queens

A badly burned body was found in the driver's seat of a vehicle in flames early Saturday, the NYPD said.

Officers and firefighters responded to the scene, at the intersection of Mott Avenue and Bay 25th Street in Far Rockaway, over reports of a car on fire just around 2:30 a.m.

Once they put out the flames, firefighters made the tragic discovery of a person in the driver's seat of the burned-out white 2012 Nissan Altima.

    Police said that the car was spotted in flames near a parking lot in the middle of a quiet neighborhood.

    The FDNY and Police launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. The medical examiner's office is set to conduct an autopsy.
