Detroit news, Michigan news.

A 33-year-old Michigan man was fatally shot by state troopers Tuesday after he pointed a laser at a police helicopter and then fired shots toward the aircraft, authorities said.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. as the helicopter hovered around the suspect's home in downtown Detroit.

“We got somebody hitting us with a green laser on the rear of the house's upper window,” the helicopter pilot told dispatchers.

Two state troopers intervened and gunned down the unidentified suspect. They were since placed on leave pending the outcome of an investigation.

“They found multiple weapons and ammunition stashes throughout the home as if it were set up for some type of ambush or security purposes or whatever,” Lt. Mike Shaw said after conducting a search of the suspect's home.
