Weston news, West Virginia news.

A Weston mother was arrested Friday over the fatal stabbing of her 3-month-old child, police said.

31-year-old Krista Brunecz had allegedly told a medical provider at the Ruby Memorial Hospital that she “stabbed her baby and then herself” and that police should not be looking for further suspects.

The attempted murder-suicide took place at Brunecz's Weston apartment on Dec. 30. At around 8 a.m., police received a call reporting “blood all over the apartment.”

Investigators believe a bloody butcher knife found at the scene was used to kill the 3-month-old infant. Weeks later, autopsy results confirmed that the baby died of “several stab wounds to the chest.”

The infant's wounds were too bad that its heart and lungs were pierced, the autopsy showed.

Brunecz was treated for self-inflicted stab wounds at the Morgantown hospital. Following her release, she was charged with the death of a child by a parent.
