Plane crashes in White Plains killing all 2 occupants shortly after leaving NY airport

A small plane heading to Cuyahoga County Airport, Ohio was found crashed in the White Plains, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The pilot and passenger of the single-engine Beechcraft A-36 were killed in the crash that occurred near Rye Lake in White Plains, New York shortly after the pilot reported engine trouble at around 6:15 p.m.

  • A massive search operation was conducted through Westchester, where the pilot later radioed air traffic controllers, involving dive teams, firefighters, and emergency responders.

    The doomed plane departed New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport Thursday evening in direction of Richmond Heights, Ohio.

    The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are probing the crash.
