Virginia teen kills adoptive parents with knife and hammer

A Chesapeake teen is behind bars after he allegedly attacked his adoptive parents with a knife and hammer inside their home earlier this week.

The 15-year-old suspect has since been charged with two counts of aggravated murder. His identity was not made public.

Officers responded to Donna and John Daugherty's home in the 1800 block of Peartree Street over reports of wounded people at around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Once there, they pronounced the couple, aged 60 and 61-year-old respectively, dead at the scene. Detectives said that the victims were slaughtered by a knife and/or a hammer.

    “I'm stunned. I really am stunned,” a neighbor who lived blocks away said.

    Authorities are asking anyone with information in connection to the killings to call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP and submit their tips anonymously.
