An Amazon employee is behind bars, accused of fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend in the parking lot of a Lakeville warehouse late Sunday.
Kayla O'Neal, 31, succumbed to her injuries but her baby, a boy called Messiah, was delivered alive although in critical condition.
“I need him to pull through this. I want him to. I can't lose both of them, not right now, no,” the victim's mother said.
Police arrested O'Neal's 32-year-old boyfriend in connection with her death. They said that the couple's daughter was with them at the time of the fatal shooting.
Friends of the deceased woman revealed that she had other kids, including one with the suspected killer. O'Neal reportedly was studying to become a nurse.
“She was passionate about everything she did. Especially hair. There wasn't an evil or disingenuous bone in her body. She was always willing to listen when I needed her. I loved her and I loved her energy whenever I was around her,” friend Destiny Hicks said of O'Neal.
