Tragic house fire leaves 3 children dead, 3 others hurt in Buffalo

A horrific house fire in Buffalo killed three kids and hurt three others Saturday, authorities said.

The deceased children were girls aged 7, 8, and 10 years old. They died after firefighters evacuated them from the burning 1.5-story residence on Dartmouth Street.

The three others were rushed to Oishei Children's Hospital. Two of them are listed in critical condition while the third, a 7-month-old girl, is in stable condition.

  • Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo said that first responders had to perform CPR on five of the children who were in cardiac arrest on their way to the hospital.

    He added that a woman, believed to be the children's grandmother, managed to escape the blaze while holding the baby. She is currently intubated at the Erie County Medical Center burn unit.

    “The story is a tragedy but the firefighters did an amazing job, heroic job, rescuing them, getting them outside,” Renaldo said.
