A Miami, Florida mother was arrested Tuesday after she fatally stabbed her 3-year-old daughter inside a North Miami Beach home, police said.
Jellisa A. Baxter, 24 years old, was found standing in the living room wearing a white robe with the slain girl’s body near her.
Baxter called 911 to report her crime at around 2 a.m. The girl suffered “deep stab wounds” to her face, neck, and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that the young mother did not have relatives in Florida and that her father lives in New York. She had no criminal history.
“I have four kids with me so I’m so really scared,” a resident of the neighborhood said.
“We have a saying, you need to look for help, don’t do that to kids.”
Baxter was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. She was denied bond.
