The driver of a car died in a horrific accident after they crashed into a fireworks store in West Melbourne causing a massive fire Monday afternoon.
Firefighters with the Brevard County Fire Rescue rushed to the scene at around 4 p.m. after receiving reports of a driver who crashed into the structure and “ignited the interior” where Phantom Fireworks were stuffed.
Authorities said that the store was fully engulfed in flames due to “rapidly deteriorating fire conditions with heavy involvement of the fireworks that were inside of the building.”
The driver of the involved vehicle died at the scene while employees inside the store were able to get to safety and were not harmed.
The incident triggered a multi-agency response including from Brevard County and West Melbourne Fire department with at least 30 firefighters battling the flames.
