Gaithersburg news, Maryland news.

Investigators in Gaithersburg, Maryland ruled the Wednesday condo explosion a suicide after they found a note with self-incriminating statements near the body of a deceased resident.

Juan Pablo Marshall Quizon, 36, is believed to have set off the blast that killed him and harmed at least 14 others at around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Quizon was the resident of one of the nine units that were destroyed in Potomac Oaks Condominium; his body was recovered from the rubble through cadaver-sniffing dogs and heavy machinery intervention.

“We have no information to believe that Mr. Quizon intended for other individuals to be injured or harmed in this particular incident,” Jones said.

“It is a criminal investigation for the fact that if Mr. Quizon was still with us, he would have been criminally culpable in this case, due to the fact several individuals are injured and the amount of property damage.”

“We know for a fact that he made statements that were indicative of intentions of suicide,” Jones added.
